Annie's Book Stop of Worcester

The little bookstore that's bigger on the inside

lakehousenaultWe hope all our patrons, especially dads and their families, had an excellent celebration of fatherhood this weekend! Our Thrills and Chills for Dads event this past Friday, featuring Jonathan Brookes, James C. MacIntosh, and Rory O’Brien, was a lot of fun and spurred some marvelous conversations with friends old and new.

This Saturday brings Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year. If you haven’t picked up your school summer reading books yet, feel free to stop into ABSW. Please bring in your lists of your school’s required titles, and we’ll try and match you up with the books you need. On top of that, we can ship—so if your child is in camp or away for the summer, we can make sure she or he still gets the necessary books.

The lovely weather is making our thoughts turn to beach reading. We’ve got perennial favorites like Kristin Hannah and Elin Hillenbrand, as well as newer releases like The Lake House by Marci Nault. Come to Annie’s and load up your beach bag with summer purchases!

Have you checked out the return of our Spinning Yarns event? It happens every Wednesday, starting at 7:00 PM. Bring your favorite craft and listen to an audio book or audio drama while you create! On Wednesday the 18th, we’re starting Lillian Jackson Braun’s The Cat Who Dropped a Bombshell, narrated by George Guidall, so come on and join us.

Worcester Storytellers is taking a brief summer vacation this month in June. The monthly event, held on the fourth Friday of the month, returns on Friday, July 25th at 7pm, when the featured reader will be Brian McKeown, author of Hannah’s Left Hook.

We’ve got even more events coming in July!

On Saturday, July 12, from 3-6 PM, we’re having A Trio of Dark Cities Authors. Friends, colleagues, and fellow writing-trouble-makers, Errick Nunnally, Jennifer Allis Provost, and Bracken MacLeod are all releasing novels of dark cities, where monsters—human and supernatural alike—will be bringing a bit of the fun kind of danger to the winding bookshelves of ABSW. Stop in to join the fun!

Then on the following Sunday, July 13, from 2pm-5pm —- Middle grade author T.J. Wooldridge will be having a special Time Dilation Pre-Release Party for her newest book Silent Starsong.

The following weekend, from Thursday, July 17 through Sunday, July 20th is NECon, a horror writing conference in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, ABSW will have a table at the event with a truly terrifying spread of books for sale from established and up-and-coming horror writers. Never fear, the bookstore will be open for its regular hours that weekend.

Enjoy these summer days, and we look forward to seeing you at Annie’s Book Stop of Worcester at 65 James Street.

May your world be filled with wonderful words!
