Annie's Book Stop of Worcester

The little bookstore that's bigger on the inside

Back to SchoolSome quick reminder notes for our friends and patrons as we start in on August:

1] August is our EDUCATORS’ MONTH!

All month long we’ll be offering special discounts to all educators, from preschool through college.  Special perks include:

* We’ve received a large selection of teaching modules, handbooks, workbooks, and skillbuilder titles from Scholastic, Teacher Created Materials, Frank Schaffer and more.  These titles, originally priced between $5.99 up to $39.99, are now just $1.00 per copy!

* We’ll be offering an additional 10% discount to classroom teachers who present their MTA card or paystub, college educators who present their paystub, and homeschoolers who present proof of approval of home education from their school district.  This means that new books will be sold at a 40% discount from the retail price, rather than the year-round educators discount of 30%, and used books will be sold at a 70% discount from the retail price, rather than the year-round discount of 60%.  The Educators Month discount does not apply to sale cart/final sale merchandise, or to non-book items such as gift certificates, toys, magazines, and kitchen items.  Discounts for special orders will be reviewed on a case-to-case basis and applied when possible.  Store credit may be applied to used books AFTER discounts have been taken at the register.  We will continue to accept Groupon for these sales, but other coupons may not be used in combination with this sale.

2] Our Sidewalk Sale continues throughout the summer and will run through the autumn, weather permitting. We’ve added numerous monthly releases from Harlequin and Silhouette, dating from 2013 and earlier, covering such genres as historical fiction, romantic suspense, and urban fantasy. In addition, we have cookbooks, decorating books, and more on our sales carts and in our sales bins. Our Sidewalk Sale items range from 25 cents up to $2.99, with many treasures to be found. Please note that Sidewalk Sale items are marked “Close Out” and thus cannot be turned back in for store credit.

3] We have added a fair amount of vintage science fiction and fantasy to our shelves, at the low price of $2.99. We hope to expand our selection to include more vintage horror, vintage mystery, and vintage non-fiction in the coming months.

4] And now for EVENTS!

This Friday, August 8 from 7-9PM, ABSW is getting a visit from Tom Lukas’s traveling Spycar! Special Operations is a collection of several books where retired Detective Nick Giaccione faces off against The Illuminator, a war nurse who has become a religious fanatic, embedding illuminated manuscripts into the bodies of her victims. The cases ensnare Giaccione in a web of contrapasso vengeance—punishing victims based on the crimes they committed.

Author Tom Lukas was born and raised in Auburn, MA and sang in Worcester churches through 1981 before moving to Cape Cod and working as an apprentice-to-master carpenter. He’s worked in electronic publishing for many years, editing a number of works for many clients, including the New York Public Library and the Wall Street Journal. Special Operations is his first novel, and SEETHROUGH, the spy program he created in the novel, inspired him to create and design his own Spycar, which he drives throughout the U.S. to publicize his work.

We’ll be hosting Worcester Storytellers on Friday, August 22nd from 7-9PM. The featured reader is to be announced… stay tuned for more information.

So, stop on by 65 James Street, and check out our August events! We’re in the midst of planning our September and October events; keep an eye out for more news.

May your world be filled with wonderful words!
