Happy first day of summer / Summer Solstice, everyone!
As we begin summer, remember we’ve still got our Report Card Rewards until June 30. Bring your good grades in and get rewarded!
We also want to remind you that you can now pre-order Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. In fact, we are having a SPECIAL CELEBRATION to celebrate Harry’s Birthday and the release. Join us starting on Saturday, July 30 at 8:00 PM as we count down to official release time of Sunday 12:01 AM to until about 1:30 AM (or until the last sale of the night). We will have readings, costume contests, door prizes, and more Potter fun. And then, on July 31, we’ll have crafts, publish costume photos, and select the costume prizes. Find out more on our Facebook event page here. But, we will only have a limited supply: A pre-order guarantees you will have a book in your Potter-loving hands on July 31. After that, attendees will be handed numbers on a first-come, first-served basis. If we out of our stock, though, we will be taking orders for a fresh shipment.
Thank you to everyone who came out for the many events this past week, from the Bloomsday Ramble and our Doctor Who Discussion on Thursday, to our Poets Assemble! and Rainbow Readers LGBTQA Book Club. Rainbow Readers began their meeting with a moment of silence in remembrance of the tragedy at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando.
This week brings us two more events.
This Friday, June 24, from 7:00 – 8:30 PM, we’re happy to host Worcester Storytellers Open Mic, featuring Sharon Healy-Yang. Healy-Yang, a professor at Worcester State, will be giving selected readings from her novel Bait and Switch.
And then, on Saturday, June 25, from 4:00 – 6:00 PM, we’re happy to host authors Andrea Hairston and Jennifer Allis Provost, along with special musical guest Pan Morigan at our Banjos, Attitude, and Modern Magic event. Award-winning Hairston and Best-selling Allis Provost talk about how they make magic in their urban fantasy titles while musician Morigan shares songs based on Hairston’s latest release, Will Do Magic For Small Change.
