Every family has one bird lover. That person who goes for long hikes on the weekends to the middle of nowhere to find and chart every flutter of movement and goes home to an army of bird feeders. Instead of another Peterson guide, why not give them a beautiful vintage bird book? This copy of Birds of America is sure to please with a variety of stunning paintings–not pictures–of the many variety of birds you can find right in your own backyard. Printed by the American Audubon society, this book is sure to please with a variety of interesting facts and stunning images alike. Our vintage collection contains quite a few hidden gems for those brave enough to venture and poke around. One such gem is our stunning copy of Raggedy Anne and the Wishing Stone, a highly sought after collector’s item! Fantastically preserved by its previous owner, this copy exhibits bright illustrations and is competitively priced for the holiday season. We also have the book you see at the top of this blog, a gorgeous copy of Merry Christmas, a beloved, illustrated children’s book from 1902.
For the lovers of the classics, nothing beats an older, unabridged version of their favorite works. Currently on our shelves are classics by Dostoyevsky and Faulker, as well as a beautiful illustrated by Melville’s breakout novel, Typee. With paintings by Mead Shaeffer, this exquisite copy published by Dodd & Mead from 1920 is a Melville fan must-have, as there is nothing more iconically Melville than an illustrated version of one of the first novels in American literature to propose non-heterosexual relations. At the time, this book was also known as Melville’s life among cannibals, due to the close-minded views of native people common in this time period. (We also recommend Beauregard’s The Whale, a new release from the summer of this year featuring a star crossed relationship between Melville and Hawthorne).
