Annie's Book Stop of Worcester

The little bookstore that's bigger on the inside

It’s November! Are you full of thanks? We at ABSW are! There is a lot of great reasons to love November besides delicious food and Thanksgiving.  In fact, we’ve got some really special events this month!  THIS WEEK even!

Take a look!

THIS THURSDAY, November 9, 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM – Come Write In!

Are you doing NaNoWriMo? Want to take a stab at writing 50k words in the month of November? Join us in our cozy bookstore to do just that!

THIS SATURDAY, November 11, 1:00 – 3:00 PM – Pop Culture Trivia and Story time with Ellen Wittenger, author of SATURDAYS WITH HITCHCOCK.

Test your classic movie mettle and meet author Ellen Wittlinger as we have fun with her latest middle grade novel, SATURDAYS WITH HITCHCOCK. The author will talk about her book, read, and sign–and the bookstore will test attendees knowledge with trivia based on the many movies and pop culture references in the book! (You don’t have to have read the book to play!) Win prizes and discover a great new book!

Ellen Wittlinger is the author of fifteen YA and middle-grade novels, winner of both a Printz Honor Award and a Lambda Literary Award. Her books have been on numerous ALA Best Books lists, Bank Street College of Education lists, and state award lists.
AND THIS SUNDAY, November 12, 1:00 – 3:00 PM – Reading, Speaking, Signing with Jane Yolen and Heidi Stemple.

Admission is FREE, but reservations are required.  Space for this event is limited, so we will be providing tickets as a reservation until capacity is reached, especially in consideration of giving late-arriving customers a chance to meet the authors. Ticket may be used as a $1 coupon towards the purchase of any new Jane Yolen or Heidi Stemple books in stock and is valid all day on the day of the event. To the limit of supplies, tickets can be reserved by contacting us by phone at 508-796-5613 during regular business hours, or in person at the bookstore during regular business hours until close of business on Friday, November 10th.

Jane Yolen has been called the Hans Christian Anderson of America and the Aesop of the 20th Century. She is a grandmaster author, as well as a poet, a teacher of writing and literature, and a reviewer of children’s literature. Her titles, such as Owl Moon, How do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight?, Briar Rose, and The Devil’s Arithmetic are classics of children’s literature.

Heidi Stemple didn’t want to be a writer when she grew up. In fact, after she graduated from college, she became a probation officer in Florida. It wasn’t until she was 28 years old that she gave in and joined the family business, publishing her first short story in a book called Famous Writers and Their Kids Write Spooky Stories. The famous writer was her mom, author Jane Yolen. Since then, she has published twenty books and numerous short stories and poems, mostly for children.
