Annie's Book Stop of Worcester

The little bookstore that's bigger on the inside

Summer’s heat and storms are here, are you set for your academic needs, beach reads, and books for curling up during thunderstorms?  We’re here to help you with all that!

We’ve stocked our shelves with information we’ve received from schools, frequent summer reading list titles from the past, and we’re ordering extra whenever someone brings in a summer reading list from their school. One of our spinners is filled with classic literature, we’ve got a summer reading display in the children’s room, and we still have our Newbery Award and children’s classics shelves to make your search easier.

If you’re looking for something light and fun to read at the beach or on vacation, we’ve got you covered, too. Check our spinners, contemporary fiction, local authors, for our extensive selection—or ask one of our knowledgeable staff members for their recommendations. And if you’re a fan of dark stories to read with a flashlight during scary weather, we have a great selection for you, too!

We also want to thank everyone who came out for our Pre-Brimfield Flea Market Vintage Book Sale, our last Poets Assemble! and our ever-growing Rainbow Readers of Massachussetts. In fact, for this month’s Dates! we had an even bigger group—on person even came as far as Vermont!

This week, Patty, Suzanne, and Trish will be away from Thursday, July 21 – Sunday July 24 for Necon, the Northeaster Writers Conference that is family to a lot of our favorite horror and dark fantasy authors. We’ll be selling books there through the weekend.

However, we do still have a fun Worcester Storytellers planned for this coming Friday. Starting at 7:00 PM and going to 8:30 PM, the Storytellers will host their open mic, and then featured readers Sam Lalos and Michael Duncan will take the stage. Join us for a varied selection of readings from authors all around the Worcester Area.

But we do have a lot going on the following week – including our very special Harry Potter Event!

Monday, July 25, 7:00 – 8:00 – Free People’s Artists Workshop.

Thursday, July 28, 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM – Doctor Who Discussion.

SPECIAL WEEKEND EVENT! New Info: Happy Birthday Harry Potter; Welcome Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Join us starting on Saturday, July 30 at 8:00 PM as we count down to official release time of Sunday 12:01 AM to until about 1:30 AM (or until the last sale of the night). We will have readings, costume contests, door prizes of small Harry Potter coloring books, goodie bags, and more Potter fun. And then, on July 31, we’ll have crafts, publish costume photos, and select the costume prizes. Find out more on our Facebook event page here.

But, we only have a limited supply: A pre-order guarantees you will have a book in your Potter-loving hands on July 31. After that, attendees will be handed numbers on a first-come, first-served basis. If we sell out of our stock, though, we will be taking orders for a fresh shipment.
